Etisalat Geek Force: Etisalat trains Young Mobile Phone Engineers

FOR Etisalat Nigeria, it seems the best way to stay on top of the game is to address special problems with special solutions. This could be seen in the number of whackie products and marketing campaigns it has introduced in recent times, knowing that communications in this 21st century is actually going whackie.

From the 0809uchoose, Easylife, Homezone, Receiver pays, Recharge others, Bonus on incoming calls, You & me, Missed call notification, Dotme, Gaga smartphone among others, Etisalat seems to have caught the bug for style and simplicity.

Just last week, the company again, trained a group of Nigerian youth engineers who would specialise in solving teething problems from smart devices. The group tagged The Geeks Force is a team of technology savvy and courteous sales staff who have been jointly trained by Etisalat’s in-house faculty and original equipment manufacturers to provide advisory services and to resolve technical issues on various devices at designated Etisalat Experience Centres.

Unveiling the team to the media in Lagos, at the weekend, Etisalat’s Director Retail sales, Mr Charles Ogunwuyi, said that Geek Force is aimed at helping Etisalat. customers make informed decisions on the technological investments they have made.

The Geek Force teams will ensure that queries and device related issues encountered by customers with modern communication gadgets like BlackBerry, other Smart phones and Modems are attended to in a professional manner.

To give the team a solid background in the assignment, Etisalat partnered with its Original Equipment Manufacturers like Nokia, Blackberry, Samsung, Huawei and ZTE to the Geeks training on latest devices.

They are equipped with the knowledge to install, configure, synchronize and set up email accounts, upgrade OS, set-up wireless connections and provide technology consultations amongst other things. They will also optimize performance on tablets and various other communication devices and handsets.

Ogunwuyi further explained that the company has also established an interactive forum between the Geeks and customers using a Facebook page called ‘Geek Corner’. This will enable customers’ questions and queries to be dealt with accordingly.

The Geek Force teams are available at designated Etisalat Experience Centres in major cities across Etisalat promised to spread the team over its services centres across the country.

How the Geek Force Operates

For all reported cases at designated Etisalat experience centres, the Geeks will perform level-1 trouble shooting on devices, and resolve and return the device to the customer. Where a device is diagnosed by the Geeks as requiring further repairs, subscribers have the option to drop off their devices for level-2 troubleshooting and resolution by the OEMs or their official after sales service providers. This scenario will apply to devices under warranty.

At the launch phase, the Geek force teams will be available at designated Etisalat Experience Centres in major cities across Nigeria including Lagos, Port Harcourt, Abuja, Ibadan, Benin, Enugu, Warri, Aba, Uyo, Kaduna, Asaba and Ughelli but will spread across the country in the coming months.

Why the Geek Force?

Explaining why the company came up with the innovation, the company’s CEO, Mr Steven Evans, said it was just to continue nourishing the company’s commitment to innovation, customer-focus and quality of service .

He said: “Our approach to innovation is holistic. It reflects in the features of our products, the devices we offer, the way we communicate, as well as the way we serve our customers. Today, we taken our innovation a step further with the introduction of Etisalat Geek force.

“With the launch of our 3.75G HSPA+ network, we intend to play significantly in the development of data services in Nigeria. As more Nigerians embrace the use of data services, more 3G enabled devices would flood the market and there would be an increased need to manage device-related queries.

In order to ensure that our customers continue to enjoy the best quality services in the area of data or voice, we decided to launch the Geek Force”.
